The Pretties Villages of Mallorca
Valldemossa
Valldemossa, located just a 30-minute drive from Palma, is one of my favourite villages! Its charming alleys and corners create a fairy-tale atmosphere. The village is famously linked to the composer Chopin, who found inspiration in its peaceful surroundings.
The best way to explore Valldemossa is to wander through its charming streets, allowing yourself to get lost in the picturesque surroundings. Be sure to visit Viewpoint II (second photo) for a stunning view of the village from a distance. It’s a perfect photo spot!
Restaurant tip: Sa Cova. Totally recommend their empanadas, both the meat and vegetarian options were delicious.
Deià
Deià, located on Mallorca’s hills, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. This village has long been a haven for artists, writers, and musicians, attracting notable figures like Robert Graves. As you stroll through, explore the various art galleries, studios, and artisan shops that showcase local talent.
Despite being a hilltop village, Deià is not far from the coast. Take a short journey to Cala Deià, a nearby cove with crystal-clear waters. It’s a fantastic spot for a swim or just relaxing by the sea.
Sóller
Sóller, located in the northwest, is known for its picturesque charm. The main square, Plaça de la Constitució, is a lovely place to take in the sights, and if you’re lucky, you might catch the tram passing by! This iconic tram travels to Port de Sóller (third photo), making for a fun journey.
If you happen to be there on a Saturday, the lively market is a must-visit, offering local produce, crafts, and a taste of the vibrant community spirit.
Fornalutx
Fornalutx, a small gem tucked away in Mallorca’s landscape, offers a peaceful escape. With traditional stone houses lining cobblestone streets, this historic village offers a unique charm. One way to immerse yourself in the landscapes surrounding Fornalutx is by enjoying the breathtaking hiking trails, ideal for nature lovers.

Pollença
Pollença is a village full of picturesque streets and its majestic mountains serve as a stunning backdrop. Make sure to climb the Calvari Steps for breathtaking views. It’s a bit of a hike, but absolutely worth it! The village is full of charm, so spend some time wandering around, exploring local shops and cafes.
Don’t miss the Pollença Market on Sundays, where you can find everything from fresh produce to local crafts.
Alcúdia
Alcúdia is rich in history and culture, featuring a beautifully preserved medieval town surrounded by ancient city walls. Take a stroll through its narrow streets and admire the historic architecture. After exploring the village, head to Alcúdia Beach, where you can relax on one of the island’s longest stretches of golden sand.
Nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Albufera Natural Park and the Tramuntana Mountains, both offering stunning landscapes and outdoor activities.
Cala Figuera
Cala Figuera is a charming fishing village on the east coast, known for its picturesque harbour. It’s a perfect spot for a leisurely day by the sea. The coastal beauty is enhanced by excellent dining options that offer fresh seafood and stunning views.

Santanyí
Located on the southeast coast, Santanyí is a vibrant village famous for its weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. These markets showcase local crafts, fresh produce, and artisanal products, providing a lively atmosphere that’s hard to resist. Explore the old town, where every corner reveals the village’s rich cultural heritage.
Santanyí is also close to stunning beaches like Cala Llombards (one of my absolute favourites), perfect for a day of sun, swimming, or just enjoying the Mediterranean vibe.

Getting Around Mallorca
To make the most of your visit, renting a car is highly recommended. While public transport is available, having a car gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. We rented ours from Hiper Rent a Car and had a great experience.
When to Visit Mallorca
Mallorca enjoys a lovely Mediterranean climate nearly year-round. The best times to visit are in spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). During these months, temperatures are comfortable, and the island is less crowded, and you can explore at a relaxed pace.
For beach days without the intense summer heat, late spring and early autumn are ideal, as the sea is warm enough for swimming, and you’ll avoid the peak tourist rush. Spring is also perfect for hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana, with blooming wildflowers enhancing the trails.
Autumn is perfect for experiencing Mallorca’s harvest season, with local markets offering fresh produce, wine tastings, and traditional celebrations that highlight Mallorca’s agricultural heritage.
Where to Stay on Mallorca
If you’re planning to stay for a week or more, consider having two bases: one on the west and another on the east. Even though the island isn’t that big, having two bases allows you to explore and experience the island more fully.
For a westward stay, Sóller or Port de Sóller are excellent choices. Both towns are centrally located with a variety of restaurant options. If you prefer a quieter retreat, consider Can Cota Boutique in Selva (photos below). Our stay here was one for the books!
For an eastern adventure, Cala Figuera or Santanyí are great options, close to beautiful beaches and lively town centres with plenty of dining choices.
